Introduction to visitor facilities at Vindolanda.
Roman Vindolanda has two admission points, our main car park is located to the west of the fort and entry is through our West Gate Admission building.
For Visitors arriving at the east side of Vindolanda, a car park, with overflow parking is available overlooking the site. Visitors with mobility difficulties can use the spaces located outside the museum entrance.
Visitors can purchase tickets at either point and our custodians will explain the site layout.
West Gate admission building
A courtyard welcomes you to Vindolanda, and our free guided tours ( Weekends & School Holidays ) commence from an area next to the fountain. Within the courtyard we have toilets and baby changing facilities. An Introduction room with model of Vindolanda temple and fort has information regarding the site before exiting onto the paths leading down to the museum.
The modern Museum at Vindolanda displays the finds of over 45 years worth of excavations. As well as the galleries, a shop, cafe and toilet facilities are located within the museum building.
The Shop at Vindolanda has a wide range of Roman related items and locally sourced products as well as academic and general interest books. We have some exclusive products, hand made at Vindolanda by the staff.
The cafe at Vindolanda is located within the museum building and we have seating for approximately 40, with seating for 70 on the outside terrace overlooking the gardens and replica temple. The Cafe is for museum visitors only, which ensures that those visiting the museum have an opportunity to relax and recharge by sampling some of our freshly made sandwiches and cakes.
